Geographic Information System (GIS) and Global Positions Systems (GPS)

Who we are: PADD GIS Staff uses an integrated suite of hardware and software tools to collect, analyze, and display a wide variety of economic, demographic, and geographic data.  ArcInfo, ArcView, ASPEN, Terrasync, GeoSync, and Pathfinder are software programs utilized to visualize, explore, query, and present digital data  and imagery in the form of maps.

 

What we do: We provide the public and private sector with accurate, up-to-date maps and addresses. The GIS Staff provides thematic mapping, generates county and city maps, water and sewer line maps, and maps to support comprehensive plans, highway plans, and development.

 

Program Accomplishments:

·          Updated and maintained one meter accuracy roadway centerline mapping data information for four Purchase Area counties.

·          Performed final quality control for 68 Counties in the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s Highway Centerline Mapping Project’s Maintenance Program.

·          Provided Technical support to the PADD E-911 Board.

·          GIS Staff address-ranged Centerline Road data for eight Purchase counties.  Starting January 2006 the GIS Staff will begin the annual maintenance cycle for the eight Purchase counties for this Program.  This data feeds into the KYTC Highway Information System (HIS) data base, the Address Enabled Centerline program of the Kentucky State Police(E-911), and the County Road Series Map Program (CRS).

·          Under the Regional Transportation Program, the PADD GIS is responsible for producing the County Road Series maps for the KYTC.

·          Provided Quality Control for E-911 address-ranging for the 68 counties in the state.

·          Generated maps for both the public and private sector.  This includes, but is not limited to, the Regional Industrial Park Board, the Four Rivers Performing Arts Center, Business Lending, Graves and McCracken County Bus Garage for route planning, ESN providers, RECC, New Concord Post Office, and others.

·          Provided mapping and data analysis support for the Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan.

·          Provided water and sewer data for the State Water Resource Information System (WRIS) and the Water Management Council.

·          Operated a Trimble GPS Base Station.  Available seven days a week, the Base Station collects both survey-grade and mapping-grade reference data, mapping grade is accessible to everyone at no charge. This Base Station is registered with Trimble and is accessible from anywhere in the world.

 

Where: These programs are available in all eight counties of the Purchase Area.

 

How: The centerline projects, both maintenance and addressing, are funded through a contract with the Kentucky State Police. The Water Management Program is funded through a contract with the Kentucky Infrastructure Authority (KIA).

You can open these maps in Adobe Reader, zoom to the portion of the map that you want, or the whole map and print it.  A word of caution, the maps were designed to be printed at about 36”X36” so printing a map in it’s entirety, on 8.5X11 paper, may not serve you well.
